Organic Cloves whole

When it comes to cloves, less is definitely more. They’re incredibly pungent, like tiny dried flavour bombs – a mix of earthy sweetness, warm spice and bitter aromats. Cloves are the flower buds of the evergreen clove tree, syzygium aromaticum. Their natural eugenol makes them a great inflammatory agent, and each one is packed with antioxidants, vitamin C, manganese and fibre. Even the oil acts as a local anesthetic (they’re surprisingly good for toothache). The beauty of cloves is that a little goes a long way. Add a few buds to your homemade Chai blend, or crush with cinnamon chips and cardamom for a cracking gingerbread spice.

Serving Suggestion: For clove tea, grind one teaspoon of cloves and infuse in 90-95ºC water for 10-20 minutes (depending on preference). Strain and sweeten with honey or sugar.
